Lenny Chappell, former head of the Downtown Business Association, on Tuesday turned over the remaining $1,347 needed to satisfy the terms of a plea bargain.
He was originally charged with felony embezzlement, accused of taking $7,347 from Platinum Plus day spa where he worked.
After turning over the final check to complete restitution, he was able to plead guilty to a reduced gross misdemeanor conspiracy charge on Tuesday. That could get him up to a year in jail but both sides have agreed to recommend probation.
Whether or not he gets that break is up to District Judge James Wilson who set sentencing in the case for July 19.
Chappell told Wilson taking the money was “a huge error in judgment” at a time when he was having serious financial problems because of a family member with major medical issues.
The case was handled by Douglas County Deputy District Attorney Tina Russom after Carson DA Jason Woodbury declared a conflict because he represented Platinum Plus as a private lawyer.
