Donald Eugene Lovelace

1922 ~ 2016

On June 5th, 2016 we lost another of our Greatest Generation. Donald Eugene Lovelace (93) passed away peacefully in his home with his wife Joan of nearly 68 years by his side.Donald was born December 1922 to Clyde and Yvonne Lovelace in Long Beach, CA. He attended Hoover High School in San Diego and started college to become a Mechanical Engineer at CalTech before having his education interrupted by WWII. Donald enlisted in the U.S. Army he was assigned to the Special Engineer Detachment at Los Alamos, NM, where he contributed to the success of the Manhattan roject. After his WWII service, he finished his degree at Cal Tech and then returned to Los Alamos for a period to continue work on

refinements of the geometry of the implosion device.June 26, 1948, Donald married the love of his life, Joan Allen. They have been together joined since that timne raising a family in a home full of love and character.Donald moved to the Los Angeles area with his wife Joan after that to work in mechanical engineering design.In 1971, tiring of the Los Angeles area, the Lovelace’s moved to Carson City, immediately falling in love with it. Donald continued his work as a mechanical engineer for Richdel 0in Carson City.Donald was very active locally as an adult leader with the Boy Scouts. He also loved playing his trumpet and spent many years performing with the Capital City Community Band to include

performances in Australia and Switzerland. An avid target shooter, Donald was an accomplished marksman, holding National records in the early 60’s. Locally, he enjoyed spending time at the range with the Carson Rifle and Pistol Club and cowboy shooting with the Silver State Shootists. Most of all, he loved his family.Donald is survived by his wife Joan, Jeffery Lovelace of Dayton, NV, Cherie (Mohammad) Kazemaini of Tacoma WA, Anne (Roger) Hillman of Billings MT, Michael (Paula) Lovelace of Sanborn, NY, grandchildren Jennifer Higgins, Zachary Lovelace, Shima Kazemaini, Marcus Lovelace, and great-grandchildren Brandon, Jonathon, Jayden, Ara and McKenna.The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in Donald’s name be made to a charity of you choice. A celebration of life service will be at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Carson City on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 2:00 pm.
