Alvin “Bud” Glatthar

Alvin “Bud” Glatthar,90, passed away December 27, 2015 in Carson City, NV. Bud was born November 26, 1925 in Akron, Ohio to Carl and Faye Glatthar. Bud graduated early from the Willoughby, Ohio high school for the sole purpose of joining the U.S. Army during WWII. He served in the Tank Corps stationed in the European Theatre. Upon his return home while visiting his alma mater he spotted his true love, Lillie Marrow, in the halls and exclaimed, “I’m going to marry that girl!” They were married November 1948. The union lasted 45 wonderful years. Bud started working with his Father, in the family business, Beam Electric, manufacturing and selling electrical fixtures. Moving on, he then worked for Addressograph and Multigraph. They sent him and his family west to manage their west coast center living in Reno, NV. When the company asked him to return east he declined. Bud then went to work for the state of Nevada in the Welfare Division where he retired. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. He and Lillie did a lot of traveling. Bud was also a very active member in the Masonic Lodge for 69 years, dating back to his time in Ohio. He also participated in the Eastern Star organization with his wife and daughter, Cheryl. Bud served as Grand Patron for the Eastern Star from 1995 to 1996.He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie who passed away in 1993, and a sister, Mescal Doyle. Bud will be dearly missed by his one daughter, Cheryl Howard (Robert) of Carson City, NV, two sons, Gary Glatthar (Arlene) of Lakewood, CO and Kenneth Glatthar (Valerie) of Sparks, NV. Five grandsons, Travis, Trevor, Dillon, Nickolas and Kory. One granddaughter, Chritina. Four great grandsons, and one great granddaughter. Three nephews and one niece. There will be a Memorial Service with military honors on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 2:00pm at the Masonic Memorial Gardens Chapel at Mountain View Cemetery, 437 Stoker Ave., Reno, NV. A reception will follow at the Kerak Shrine Temple, 4935 Energy Way, Reno, NV. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bud’s honor to the Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital in care of Kerak Shrine Temple.
