The Arts Center in Fallon is calling all golfers June 18 to the Fallon Golf Course for its fourth annual Golf Tournament for the Arts.

Patricia Sammons, executive director of the Arts Center (formerly the Rising Sun Gallery Arts Studios) is partnered with Western Nevada College and the Churchill County Parks and Recreation department in putting on the event.

“We started this tournament four years ago when we were still Rising Sun,” Sammons said, “and that legacy continues.”

The tournament is $35 for participants who are members of the Fallon Golf Course and $65 for non-members. Golfers will get to play an 18-hole scramble beginning in the morning followed by a luncheon covered by their entrance fee and a raffle with prizes and awards for top golfers.

“We partnered to use funding from various things we do for the community,” Sammons said. “The arts programs in the schools were pretty much discontinued, but we picked up the slack and we started it downtown deciding to close retail business and focus entirely on teaching.”

Last year’s tournament netted $1500 for the center’s programs between participants and local businesses. Sammons added, however, the tournament is still looking for people to sign up local teams for the day of golfing and prizes.

“We’re small,” Sammons said. “We started this whole thing four and a half years with little or nothing and we’ve grown it. We work with other people in the community who are supportive of us and we keep on going. It’s a healthy thing for families and individuals.”

For registration call Sammons at 775-294-4135 or the center at 775-410-0571.
