Salute: The Carson Zouaves fired a salute of 36 guns yesterday morning at sunrise in honor of the anniversary of the organization of the Warren Engine Company. The firing was done in handsome accordance with the regulations made and provided by the War Department. The gun used for the occasion was the brass howitzer belonging to the Zouaves.

Truckee: A fire broke out in Chinatown on June 18, which consumed about 40 buildings, owned mostly by people of Chinese descent, and occupied exclusively by Chinese. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is generally asserted that it was set by the Chinese, under the conclusion they must go, and have said they would do so before it fell into the hands of white men of the place.

Garbage dumped on public roads: The Women’s North End Improvement club of Carson has done splendid work in the way of starting the cleaning up of the north end of town and has had the cooperation of the Board of Trustees and the officials generally in the good work. Complaints have been raised of people dumping garbage on the road to Reno. Complaints have also been raised people dumping garbage along Kings Canyon Road.

Lt. Carl W. Shannon, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.S. Shannon of Carson City, returned home yesterday after getting his release from naval service at the Stockton, Calif., separation center. He is currently visiting with his folks at their summer home near Glenbrook.

The Nevada Legislature launches Monday what is promised to be the most penetrating analysis ever made of Nevada’s gambling economy. The idea is to advise the 1967 Legislature whether gambling casino owners should, or could, be taxed more, how much and in what way.

City Supervisor Bill Burnaugh, apparently undaunted by his arrest Wednesday and subsequent booking in Washoe County Jail in Reno, joked with fellow supervisors at their meeting this morning and displayed an altered name plaque in front of his assigned seat. Burnaugh, a bail bondsman and private investigator, was arrested on charges of speeding and investigation of possession of burglary tools.
