Carson Futbol Club’s Pumas Elite won four straight matches to capture South Lake Tahoe’s CUFA Tournament over the weekend.
Carson, a U-16 team, knocked off the East Bay Eclipse, 3-0, in the semifinals, and blanked Almaden FC, 2-1, for the championship. Carson topped Legacy FC 4-1 and Mustang United ‘98, 6-1, in pool play. The Pumas Elite have won this tournament four years in a row, and the team finished the season with a 77 percent winning percentage.
Angel Gonzalez led the team in scoring with five goals, while Michele Crotta added four and Alejandro Gonzalez and Milton Rubio contributed two each. Efren Ramirez and Danny Manzo scored one goal apiece.
The team is coached by current CHS assistant coach Frank Martinez.
Knighton group wins
scramble tournament
David Knighton, Bob Warzynski, Tony Barbaria and Terry Thomas shot a net 49 to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club four-man scramble at Eagle Valley West.
Jim Green, John Lewis, John Masiello and Nick Paul were second with a 51. Wade Walker, David Morris and Bill Allen were third with a 51.
In Flight B, the foursome of Dick Brownfield, Marshall McCurdy, Henry Teague and Gene Gaston won with a 49, two shots clear of the second-place team of Rich Bremenour, Dick Blankenship, Jim Norton and Tom Wickham, and the third-place group of Bob Pluth, Marty Martinez, Dan Rodgers and Clark Reid.
Bill Milligan, Reid, Skip Yokota and Bremenour were closest to the hole winners.
Colwell top women
at Dayton Valley
Carol Colwell shot 84 to win low gross in Flight 1 at the recent Dayton Valley Women’s Club stroke play event.
Judy Greer and Denise Johnson had net 71s to tie for first place in Flight 1. Terri Paden won low net with an 88 in Flight 2, while Reita Bass’ 69 won low net. Laura Hun shot 102 to win low gross in Flight 3 and Bernadette Wyatt had a 75 for low net honors. In Flight 4, MV Gentry won low gross with a 98 and Mary Harrison shot 73 to win low net.
