Old swipes: Sheriff Smith, who returned from Pine Nut Valley yesterday, informs us that while there he was “Old Swipes,” the poor, half-crazy old man that used to be seen near Wells, Fargo & Co., office, and whose time was mainly spent in the compilation of incoherent writings, and that he was in dying condition. We hope he has friends who will attend to his last moments.

Ex-Mayor Currie of Virginia City, who blew his brains out recently, was an auctioneer. Occasionally he received a carload of plants and flowers from California, and held an outdoor sale on C. Street. It so frequently happened that when Currie held a flower sale a cautionary snowstorm came and on that the two events got to be regarded as inseparable. A man who wanted to court lady friendship from San Francisco asked Currie not to hold a flower sale, fearing snow and went so far as to threaten Currie’s life. Currie postponed the event.

Wabuska Scene of double murder: Information was received in Reno yesterday morning of a double murder and the serious wounding of a third victim late Saturday night at Wabuska, Lyon County. Manuel Farias, a Spaniard, about 30 years old, is alleged to have shot and killed two Mexicans and seriously wounded a third with the aid of a rifle and automatic revolver.

The Marriage of Thalia Alexander of Las Vegas and Harvey Dondero of Carson City, formerly of Las Vegas, was solemnized at a ceremony in Las Vegas Friday. Mr. And Mrs. Dondero left for a honeymoon trip to Beaver Dam lodge in Arizona, after which they will come to Carson City to make their home.

Lt. Gov. Paul Laxalt formally launches his drive for governor of Nevada Wednesday night and he’ll get an assist from former Vice President Richard Nixon, who flies into Reno that afternoon to give Nevada’s only GOP office holder a hand.

Carson-Tahoe Hospital Board of Trustees discussed its “vision of the future” Wednesday night the presentation of a strategic plan.
