Local sports roundup: Blue jays rally against Bandits; Hooligans wins two

The Carson Blue Jays put together a late rally to knock off the Spanish Springs Bandits, 13-11, Sunday in the North Valleys-Spanish Springs Invitational.

Carson trailed 10-8 entering the top of the seventh, but struck for five runs to take a 13-10 lead. Spanish Springs scored one off reliever Abel Carter, who picked up the save.

In the seventh, Jared Barnard singled and moved to second on Kahle Good’s walk. After Brandon Gagnon laid down a but to move runners to second and third, Jesse Lopez hit a two-run single. Carter capped the rally with a three-run homer.

Lopez and Moyle each went 3-for-5. Carter went 2-for-2 with four runs scored and three RBI. Gagnon went 2-for-3 and Trevor Edis went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Barnard went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Hooligans win twice

The Carson City Little League Hooligans went 2-1 over the weekend in district competition.

Carson beat Washoe 21-15 and Reno National 10-0, and lost 8-4 to Reno American.

In the win over Washoe, Carson outscored Washoe 12-11 in the first inning. Nathanial Samaro went 5-for-5 and drove in four runs, while Tristan Wahl went 4-for-4 and drove in five runs.

Against Reno National, Carson scored four in the first and four in the second to take command of the game. Wahl hit a three-run homer in the first and Eric Topete added a solo shot. In the second, Samaro hit a two-run homer, Aiden Lopez hit a run-scoring double and Nick Dagbay added an RBI single. Will Breeding threw two scoreless innings and fanned three to pick up the win. Samaro homered again in the fourth.

In the loss to Reno American, Carson fell behind 6-0 and could never dig itself out of the hole. Denton Fitzpatrick doubled twice and drove in two runs. Samaro had a hit and RBI.
