LAS VEGAS — Gov. Brian Sandoval’s spokeswoman says the Nevada governor will support whoever is the Republican nominee for president.
The brief statement Monday came as The Associated Press surveyed Republican governors and senators nationwide on whether they would vote for Donald Trump if he wins the Republican nomination.
Just under half of those who responded by Monday afternoon would not commit to backing him, which could foreshadow a major split in the party this fall. Some said they would support a third-party bid over backing the polarizing businessman.
The moderate Republican Sandoval has not formally endorsed a presidential candidate. He caucused for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio last week and told the Las Vegas Sun in August that he thought there were better qualified individuals than Trump in the race.
