Black Rock. There is considerable excitement in and about Susanville and the adjacent county in reference to the richness of the mines discovered at Black Rock. People are just frying the silver out of the rocks taken from the ledges in spoons, ladles, kettles and even frying. We hope it is all so, and hope some of our friends about Susanville will fry out a few spiderfuls for us. (Chico Courant)

Reward. A. W. Segal offers a reward of $150 for the arrest and conviction of the person who stole a house which he had built on his land at Happy Creek, near Quin River. It is not often a thief ventures to steal a house.

Orphans’ home. A new orphans home building in Carson has accommodations for 100 children. The state wards now number 62, of whom 31 are boys. The height of the structure from base to dome is 115 feet. The grounds comprise 16 acres of agricultural land where all of the vegetables for table use are grown. Livestock includes six cows.

Other items from USS Nevada. According to a wire received today by Judge Clark J. Guild, chairman of the board of directors of the state museum, items include a silver service, bell, and nameplate of the USS Nevada, a magnesium chest and plaque bearing the names of captains who commanded the ship. Judge Guild recalled that the magnesium chest mentioned is an ornate magnesium box made by Basic Magnesium Plant near Las Vegas in 1944.

Historic Bowers Mansion in Washoe Valley is facing a threat of condemnation according to Mr. Raymond Hayes, director of the Washoe County Park and Recreation Board. The structure is deteriorating more and more each year and if something isn’t done immediately the mansion faces possible condemnation.
