One person was killed Friday morning and another was in serious condition after a single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 580 north of Carson City.
The Nevada Highway Patrol responded to Washoe Valley north of the Bellevue exit at 6:12 a.m. Upon arrival NHP found two people lying in the median after being ejected from the vehicle.
Trooper Duncan Dauber says a female passenger in the southbound white Dodge pickup was confirmed dead.
Dauber says the driver, 50-year-old Oscar Esparza of Sparks, was transported by helicopter to a Reno hospital in serious condition.
Traffic was diverted until the southbound lanes were reopened shortly before 10 a.m.
I-580 in the area of the crash is a four-lane highway with two lanes in either direction. There’s a dirt median separating both directions of travel and the speed limit is posted at 70 miles per hour.
Dauber said in a statement late Friday neither is believed to have been wearing a seatbelt and added “impairment is under investigation at this time.”
