Community sports: Senators win bowling title

Carson High knocked off Spanish Springs, 35-10, to win the area high school bowling championship.

Skylar Belcher, Luis Celedon and Conlin Herrick rolled a 241, 289, 192, 178, 203 and 214. The trio started the second game with 10 straight strikes.

Tyler Lethcoe, Matt Hinton and Dustin Floyd rolled a 191, 212, 199, 225, 191 and 195. Lethcoe, Matt Liddell and Nick Fisher had a 142, 158 and 204. Alec Fletcher, Conner Bell and Chris Baird had a 214, 184, 190, 213, 192 and 198.

Ryaln Fancher, Paxton Spence and Ray Ceragoli had a 146, 130 and 167, while Samantha Hinton, Cindi Redus and Chesney Minor had a 134, 165 and 166.

Floyd was the male bowler of the year. He averaged 216 and had the high series with a 751. Samantha Hinton and Liddell were all-stars. Baird had the high individual game at 278.

The team was coached by Kevin Costa, Chris Fletcher, Vern Barnes and Dave Lethcoe.

Basketball camp set for Carson High

The Carson High basketball program, along with MEFIYI, is offering a three-day co-ed basketball camp at Carson High School March 29-31. The camp is open to boys and girls from grades three through eight.

The registration fee is $85 per player, and additional siblings are $70. Each camper receives a T-shirt, and proceeds benefit the Carson High basketball program.

The camp directors are Marie Foster and Nathan Tolbert, and the head clinicians are Anthony Davis and Carson coaches Melissa Larsen and Rob Roesner.

Booster golf event at Edgewood set

The 29th annual Booster Golf Tournament, benefitting South Tahoe and Whittell high schools, is set for May 7-8 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

The entry fee is $145 which includes golf, cart and lunch. The format is a four-man scramble. Come in with your own team or register as a single or couple. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and action gets under way at 11. Each day there’s a separate tournament in which the top three teams get trophies. There are raffle prizes, closest-to-the-pin and hole-in-one prizes. If you want to play both days, the cost is $260.

CVGC hosts tourney this Saturday

Carson Valley Golf Club is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Green Ball Bash Golf Tournament.

The cost is $45 which includes golf, cart fee, potato soup and a corned beef sandwich. The tournament starts at 10 a.m. weather permitting and the format is a four-team scramble.

First Tee hosts sign-up at Scheels

The First Tee of Northern Nevada begins its 2016 season with a special registration March 19-20 at Scheels, located in the Outlets at Sparks.

Registration is open to boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 18. The registration hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.

By signing up early, registrants will save on programming, including season passes. Scheels will offer discounts on golf equipment. Six Reno-area golf courses will hold classes between March 28 and Oct. 29. For more information, call 851-2332.

Umpires needed for youth baseball

Umpires are needed for Northern Nevada Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken leagues this season.

Training will be provided at a clinic on March 20 at Sun Valley Park from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $10 and includes lunch.

Dayton Valley Palmer Club starts Saturday

The Dayton Valley Palmer Club 2016 season will begin March 12 with an individual net tournament in two flights. Membership is open to the public for any male golfer age 18 or older.

Golf special at Empire Ranch

Empire Ranch is running a special from March 17-20.

The course is knocking $5 off its normal green fee between Thursday and Sunday, and with each paid green fee golfers receive a free domestic draft beer from 10 a.m. until closing.
