Marian Janet Engstrom was born in Isle, MN, to William and Ruth Engstrom on October 9, 1922. Her mother and younger sister, Gretchen, died when Marian was five years old. Her father remarried to Estelle Stroebel of Mapleton, MN, in 1936, and they had a son, Paul Dean, in 1939. Marian graduated from Isle High School as salutatorian, attended Bethel College in St. Paul, and became a registered nurse at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis. She worked in private practice and hospital nursing supervision for 45 years. On April 14, 1945, Marian married Gorney Edward Vugteveen of Pease, MN, in her hometown of Opstead, MN. They had a son, Robin William, ten years later in Minneapolis. They moved to Dallas, TX, in 1957, then to northeast Ohio in 1964, and retired in Sun Lakes, AZ, in 1988. After Gorney’s death in 1996, Marian met and married Glenn Johnson of Sherburn, MN, in Sun Lakes, AZ, on December 29, 1995. After Glenn’s death in 1999, Marian moved close to Robin’s family in Tucson, AZ, in 2003, then Auburn, WA, in 2007, and finally to Carson City, NV, in 2009. She was actively involved in the local Queen Maud Lodge of the Daughters of Norway and in the

GraceWorks Ministry. Marian is survived by her son Robin, his wife, Beverly, and their daughters, Kathryn Rose and Christena Faith; by her brother, Paul, his wife Donna, and their three sons, Dean, Matthew, and Todd; and by cousins Gary Frykman, Margaret (Sammy) Bubel, David Melrose, and Margaret Mahesh. A memorial service will be held on March 14, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Carson City, NV. Interment will be at Valley of the Sun Memorial Park in Chandler, AZ, at a later date. Memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Carson City, NV.
