More than 500 people watched and cheered as 10 Carson Valley celebrities competed in the fourth Suicide Prevention Network of Douglas County’s Gotta Dance event.
Contestants competed for both the People’s Choice Award for the most Dancing Dollars raised and the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy, the judge’s choice for best dancer.
Debbie Humphrey Maggert placed first in the People’s Choice award and second went to Angela Wood.
Woody Worthington with instructor Alisa Merino wowed the judges, taking home the first place Mirror Ball Trophy.
J.P. Albert and his instructor Tracey Muetzenberg took second.
More than 30 volunteers and community support helped make the event happen again, Executive Director of Suicide Prevention Debbie Posnien said.
“I just want to thank again Dance Workshop, dancers and instructors and all of those who sponsored the event,” she said. “We were overwhelmed with the communities enthusiasm towards the dance event and for their recognition of the cause and how important it is to our community.”
While a final tally wasn’t available at press time, Posnien said the event was shaping up to look even better than last year’s.
All funds raised support suicide prevention and awareness within Douglas County.
