John E Grub was born December 26, 1933 to John and Gladys Grub in Minneapolis Minnesota. John went West on March 15, 2016 at home with his loving wife by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. In 1941 the family moved to Torrance California to be close to relatives. John went to Fern Avenue School and graduated in 1951 from Torrance High School. John’s love of all things mechanical started at an early age after his first airplane ride with his uncle who performed Airplane House Crashes at fairs and race tracks. Throughout his life John created race cars, airplanes, cars, motorcycles and models to mention a few. After high school John worked in an auto body shop until he was 18 then went to work at the steel mill until he went in the Army. Joining the 101st Airborne he learned another passion, parachuting which led to many adventures as well as teaching others how to sky dive. After his Honorable Discharge, John moved back to Torrance living one house away from his parents and begin his career at the Chevron Refinery, El Segundo Ca. Retiring after 25 years, John was the first Manager to work on both the refining and maintenance areas. Among his multiple hobbies, airplanes and flying were his first love. John is survived by wife of 38 years, Edie, Wayne Eads, Brother-in-law, children Elaine and John, several grand and great grandchildren, niece Andrea Eads, nephew Jason Eads and numerous wonderful friends. John is preceded in death by parents, John and Gladys and sister, Sandra Eads. A memorial will be held April 23rd at 2pm George Byard’s hangar at the Carson City Airport. Please join us and share your memories. Inurnment with Military Honors will be on April 22nd at noon, at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery, Fernley, NV. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to RSVP Respite Care or your favorite charity.
