Fish. A buffalo fish was taken in a seine in the Truckee. This species of fish have been found in abundance lately. We never knew that this fish frequented any of the waters west of the Rocky Mountains.

All sorts. Queen Victoria was “profoundly pleased,” with Tennyson’s last ode. The Queen is getting so old that almost anything pleases her now.

New school open house. The building had been handsomely decorated by the school-teachers. The fine halls are more that what is expected in a city the size of Carson. The Assembly Hall is furnished with over 200 fine chair seats, the electric lighting is excellent and the stage is a very fair size.

Cats rings doorbell when through with mice. Buck, a cat of unknown ancestry, clangs the mailbox lid for entrance at the Joseph S. Kupka home — so Joe fixed her a special doorbell. Now when Buck returns home after a hard day chasing mice or taking a nocturnal prowl, the foxy feline punches her doorbell and one of the Kupla family lets her in.

Reno Gas 4th Highest. The Las Vegas price was $1.42 and the Reno price was $1.52. Reno’s price has jumped 29 cents per gallon over the past seven weeks — the seventh highest rate of increase in the nation.
Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
