The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.
SILVER DOLLAR: To all the mothers out there, this is your day. We should honor our mothers every day, so every day should be Mother’s Day. But since today is officially your day, to all the mothers out there who have been woken up to an early breakfast of burnt toast and something not really recognizable that resembles scrambled eggs but you couldn’t be more thankful because the kids you love more than anything in the world made them for you, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
SILVER DOLLAR: This past week, May 1 through 7, also was small business week. We should also honor our small businesses more than just than one week a year, but all the time with our patronage as they’re the engine that makes the economy of communities in this country go, so to all the small businesses in Carson City, thanks for hanging in there and making this community a special place.
SILVER DOLLAR: To the 129 law enforcement officers in this state honored Thursday at the Nevada Police Officers Memorial Ceremony for paying the ultimate price in protecting us, including Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell, who died last year in the line of duty.
