The Placerville Road: E. B. Rail, Esq., got back from San Francisco, and says he never saw the road in better condition. He said that an empty passenger car on the railroad was smashed into smithereens just this side of Folsom. Nobody was hurt, but everybody scared like thunder.

All sorts. Judge Cary has employed at the Arlington two white cooks from the Palace Hotel, San Francisco. The judge says his menu will beat the world.

Body found. Judge Bethune’s headless body was found in the vicinity of Arsenic Springs. He went on a prospecting trip to Death Valley a year ago and perished from exposure. The corpse had the appearance of a mummy.

Conscientious objector. Heavyweight champion Cassius Clay (Mohammed Ali) wants to be classified as a conscientious objector. The champion, a Black Muslim, is in London preparing for his title fight against Henry Cooper.

Baby hawks. Nevada State Prison officers in guard towers keep watch on passers-by who stop to take a look of a pair of red-tailed hawks that have raised a family of four on the edge of the old prison’s grounds in a Cottonwood tree. “I tell people they can watch the birds from the north side of the street,” said one officer who asked not to be identified.
