Carson High’s softball team ended its season by getting swept by arch-rival Douglas, 10-9 and 10-3, Tuesday afternoon.
The Senators, who bid farewell to Bailey Allen and Gabbi Winder, finished the league season with a 6-16 record, a three-game improvement from coach Shane Quilling’s first season at the helm.
“We made some progress this year, doubling our win total in league,” Quilling said. “Hopefully we can double that next year. The future looks bright.
“We dominated that first game, but we dropped three fly balls. I think they maybe had three earned runs (actually five). We just hurt ourselves. We should have gotten a split. Lauren pitched well in the first game. In the second game, she left a couple of pitches up and they hammered the ball.”
Carson scored four in the first thanks to hits by Kassidy Cooley, Faith Bigelow, Winder and Terryn Earle, wiping out a 3-0 Douglas lead. Carson went onto build a 9-6 lead entering the final inning.
Douglas took the lead for good in the top of the seventh when Casey Peck doubled, went to third on an infield out and scored on a single by Madison Rodgers to make it 9-7. Chloie Pratt tripled to make it 9-8, and an error tied the game at 9. Shaena Robinson singled to drive in what proved to be the game-winning run.
Allen went 3-for-3, while Cooley, Bigelow and Camiell Simpson added two hits each. Cooley drove in four runs and Bigelow had two RBI.
The second game was close until the Tigers scored six in the sixth to take control.
Douglas built a 4-0 lead, but Simpson cut it to 4-2 with a two-run double in the third. In the sixth, Rodgers singled, went to second on a single by Mackenzie Brixey and reached third on a single by Kettja Bennett. Allison Meyer hit a two-run double, Corryne Diaz hit a two-run single and Casey Peck hammered a two-run homer to make it 10-2.
Bigelow, Simpson and Tezia Boice all had two hits for the Senators.

Truckee won the opener, 13-5, and won the nightcap, 9-5.
The Wolverines broke open a 6-5 game with for in the third and two in the fourth. Caleigh Onstott, Briana Hill, Tiana Snow, Cassie Dickenson and Alaura Greenwalt all had one hit. Onstott finished with two RBI.
Truckee scored two in the fourth, fifth and sixth to break open a 3-2 contest in the second game. Hill, Marisa Hartman, Aleea Howe, Snow and Elizabeth Vincent hit safely for Dayton. Hartman and Hill had an RBI apiece.

Carson golfers take 7th
RENO — Carson High’s golf team was blanked on the second day of the Northern Division I regionals at Somerset Country Club.
The Senators failed to advance to state as a team, and they failed to send an individual onto next week’s state tournament.
Galena (760) and Bishop Manogue (802) captured the top two spots. Reed was third at 833 and Reno was fourth at 837. McQueen took fifth at 871, Spanish Springs was sixth at 890, and Carson despite improving by 20 strokes from its first-round score, ended up at 970 which was good for seventh place.
Bebop Martinez shot a second-day 85 to finish tied for 20th at 174. Lakoda Smokey shot 90, an improvement of two shots, and finished at 182 for 32nd place. Taylor Saarem shot 100 for a two-day total of 198. Ty Evans shot 102, a 16-shot improvement, to finish at 220. Ethan Lepire shot 98, a 28-shot improvement, to finish at 224.
“The boys definitely played better today,” coach Wade Greenlee said. “We reduced our stroke total from yesterday by 20 strokes and I think Somerset is just as tough as Arrowcreek. Playing on a course for the first time is always difficult, but their course management and shot selection was improved.
“Bebop ended in a tie for 20th place and now he knows what it will take to be one of the better players in the north. I was really impressed with Ethan and Ty today. They had a tough day yesterday, but showed a lot of character to grind away today and shoot very respectable scores. Erase just a couple of holes and both Taylor and Lakoda would have been in the low 90s or maybe 80s.”
