Commemorating the ninth anniversary of his inauguration, Pope Pius XI today spoke over the powerful new radio installed in the Vatican, wishing the “peace of Christ to all the faithful.”
The Pope was presented by inventor Marconi, who said “with the help of almighty God, who places the mysterious forces of nature at man’s disposal, I have been able to prepare this instrument. It will give the faithful throughout the world the consolation of the Holy father’s voice.”
Addressing members of the clergy, the Pope said, “We beg you to be worthy of your divine vocation. Make your people true to Christ, and become models for your flocks.”
Pope Pius XI is the first Pope to be heard on radio.
