Motorists should expect delays traveling through Washoe Valley beginning this weekend.
Construction crews will reduce northbound I-580 to a single lane beginning today (Friday) at 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, May 16, for what NDOT officials described as a marathon paving session.
Additional sessions will be scheduled through early June during weekends to avoid impacting weekday commuter travel on the highway that sees as many as 32,000 vehicles a day.
The southbound lanes were repaved last fall.
In addition, drivers will continue to experience intermittent lane and ramp closures on the highway as other improvements are made. Crews are currently working to extend the on-ramp lane from the Lakeview Hill area south to the Carson Street off-ramp.
Crews are still finishing up a major retrofit of the Bellevue Bridge in the middle of Washoe Valley.
The work is all part of a $15 million contract with Q&D Construction of Sparks. The project will be completed by fall.
