Governors of seven states pledged cooperation to wage hour administrator Elmer F. Andrews in enforcing the Fair Labor Standards Act, which became effective at 12:01 a.m. today.

Four of the governors represented southern states — Alabama, Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana — and the others were Iowa, Utah and Nevada in the West.

The act establishes a minimum wage — $0.25 per hour — in addition to other standards regarding overtime pay and record keeping.

This continues the Appeal’s review of news stories and headlines during its Sesquicentennial year.
