LaUna Ione (Launa) Bishop, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away quietly, surrounded by family and loved ones, April 18th, 2016 in Reno Nevada. Born Nov. 22, 1929 in St. Louis Missouri, to Odis and Irene Doyle, she exemplified the extraordinary character, virtues and values of “personal responsibility, duty, honor, faith, and service, extolled by Tom Brokaw, in “The Greatest Generation”. Overcoming the trial of losing her mother at age 3 and the difficulties, hardships and challenges of her depression era childhood, she is remembered as a loving, nurturing mother, devoted wife, and a compassionate and caring friend, always willing to serve and sacrifice for others. Having an entrepreneurial spirit, she opened a beauty salon, a flower shop and assisted her first husband Jim in opening and operating numerous businesses, included a successful video store chain. With a commitment to service, she did volunteer work with handicapped children. She also served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout den mother, a PTA leader, and at one time was the grammar school room mother for three different classes at once. An interest in history, which she passed down to her children, led to her assisting at a number of local museums. Joining the LDS church later in life she also served with her husband David Bishop as a Temple worker and in the Relief Society.

Her hobbies of painting, rock-hounding, reading and exploring were a joyful passion and they enriched, excited and inspired the lives of her children, grandchildren, and many others. Her true passion though, was serving her family. Her encouragement and support, together with the virtuous and unselfish example she provided, as a mother, grandmother, wife and companion, influenced all that knew her. She is proceeded in death by her older brother Virgil Doyle, her first husband Jim Stevens, her youngest son, Kelly Gene Stevens, and son in law Ed Sandberg. She is survived by her husband David Bishop, her children and their spouses, Fay Boise (Paul), Linda Sandberg, Jim L. Stevens (Lori), and Jaime Wolff (Jeff). Also by step children, Dean Bishop, Roy Bishop, Anna Williams, Paula Alverez, Glen Bishop, Darlene Brimhall and over 90 grand children and great grand children. She will be missed and will be in our hearts always.
