Adam Domitrovich, who made his mark at Carson High with his long-snapping abilities, has signed on to play football at University of Saint Mary, an NAIA school located in Kansas.

Domitrovich also considered Kentucky Christian. His new campus is a short drive from where his older brother, Nick, and former CHS baseball-football standout Luke Maher, play at Sterling University.

“I liked it (Saint Mary) better,” Domitrovich. “The offers were about the same. I found out about Saint Mary from Connor Chech, so I contacted them. They didn’t know I long snapped.

“They are looking at me more as a defensive end or linebacker. They play a three-man front because they don’t have a lot of linemen. I think they have six defensive linemen coming back.”

The 6-foot-3 Domitrovich racked up eight tackles from his defensive tackle spot last year. In a 3-4 alignment, he would be more of a run stopper, as the outside linebackers supply a lot of the pass rush.

“He’s a good athlete; a solid well-built athlete,” said USM defensive coach Tim Brooks, a Lovelock High graduate. “We’re going to put some weight on him. I think he has a desire to play, so we’ll see how it al shakes out. I think he has a chance to play right away.”

Brooks also said Domitrovich could compete for the snapping job on field goals and extra points.

“He said long snapping would get me on the bus,” Domitrovich said.

Brooks said he tries to keep in contact with coaches in the Northern Nevada area. His brother, Mike, is Lovelock’s athletic director. He said he wasn’t able to get back to the area last season.

Carson will have some big shoes to fill in terms of snapping.

Jake Roman filled in admirably when Domitrovich suffered a labrum injury last year.

“We’re looking at developing several juniors, so we’ll see,” coach Blair Roman said. “Jake is the frontrunner and he’s worked hard at it. There shouldn’t be a drop-off from in terms of what we’ve had. He looks good right now.

“Adam was solid all year, He really developed himself in the off-season (between his junior and senior year). He was an outstanding long snaper, as good as we’ve had, and we’ve had some good ones.”
