Rules for management of the public school: There will be two terms of 22 weeks each, daily school sessions shall commence at 9:30 a.m., a teacher will be present during the recess, the principal will have charge of the school and the grammar department and may expel any pupil for violent or opposition to authority. Teachers shall require punctual attendance of pupils, no pupil shall be admitted to the school under the age of six nor over 21, pupils are required to have cleanliness of person and clothing, and no pupil shall advance to a higher grade without a thorough examination.

Was it a ghost? There have been queer rumors of a ghost seen in the American Laundry. At 8 o’clock the hands were sitting in the laundry when a woman quite richly dressed walked into the laundry. She proceeded to the engine room where she opened the furnace door and looked in. One of the workers went to see what she wanted. She swept past him without a word and went toward the door. When she reached the door she vanished ... she did not go down the steps, but simply disappeared. They claim that a live woman could not have left the building without being seen. She was pronounced a genuine ghost.

Ramsey: Report of another rich find in the Ramsey district was brought to Reno by H. Crawford. The find is located three and a half miles northwest of the original Ramsey strike. The ledge is easily traced for a mile and a half and is as much as 15 feet in width (Journal). Note: Ramsey is a mining ghost town located prior to Silver Springs at the Ramsey/Weeks turn off.

Mummified cat: The oddity was found by Mrs. F. H. Ruppel. She said she was cutting down a bush and found a robin’s nest and on top of it was the mummified cat curled up as if it was sleeping. It was taken to the Nevada State Museum where it will be put on display.

Search canceled: A search for Howard Wilber, 18, last seen at a weekend party along the Carson River has been called off. Wilbur was to be graduated from Carson High School and was described as a “good, quiet” boy. Air search was made by Lou Gourley, flier for the Highway Department, and Scuba divers were Sgt. Tom Fetic and Glane Mitchelle.

Census Bureau projection: Nevada’s senior population will double by the year 2020. Predicted to be the fastest in the country, state health officials are scrambling to control medical costs without sacrificing quality of care for seniors.
