Audio book complete for ‘Always Lost’

In recognition of Memorial Day, Nevada Talking Book Services (NTBS) has completed an audio book of literary work from the compelling exhibition, “Always Lost: A Meditation on War.” The recorded book gives visually impaired Nevadans the ability to experience the poignant personal stories and writings about Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.

The idea for the “Always Lost” exhibit started in 2008 when Western Nevada College sociology professor Don Carlson decided to pay tribute to the human toil of war. The exhibit began as a creative writing class project at WNC and evolved into a traveling Iraq and Afghanistan war memorial. The Nevada Arts Council and local donations funded a traveling exhibit. From 2010-2016, the Always Lost exhibit was displayed at more than 50 venues nationwide from colleges to veterans’ organizations and back home at prominent places such as the Nevada State Legislature building.

The audio book includes all of the original literary work from the exhibit including the original poetry and personal story of Army Specialist Noah C. Pierce, who died by suicide after two combat tours in Iraq.

Any Nevada resident unable to read regular print materials as the result of a temporary or permanent visual or physical limitation may sign up for this service and borrow the recording.
