Blue Jays go 2-1 to finish tournament

The Carson Blue Jays closed out play in the Reno Knights Memorial Day Classic with two wins and a loss.

On Sunday, Carson lost to the Sun Devils, 12-8, and then beat IBAC, 8-7. On Monday, the Blue Jays outlasted the Reed Rangers, 10-9.

Against the Rangers, Carson blew an early 6-0 lead. The Rangers tied the game with three in the third and three in the top of the fourth before the Blue Jays took the lead for good with three in the bottom of the fourth and one in the fifth.

Two passed balls, four walks and a single by Trevor Edis accounted for the fourth-inning scores, and a single by Bryce Moyle accounted for the run in the fifth.

Moyle and Landon Truesdale had two hits apiece in the victory. Jared Barnard drove in two runs. Derek Schafer was credited with the win.

The Blue Jays led the Sun Devils 5-4 entering the bottom of the fifth when the locals lost the lead by allowing three runs. Carson tied the game at 8 in the top of the seventh, but gave up four in the bottom of the eighth.

Abel Carter and Jace Keema led the Blue Jays with three hits and two RBI apiece. Former CHS stars Connor Pradere and Kyle Krebs went 4-for-5 and 1-for-3, respectively. Keema picked up the loss in relief.

Against IBAC, the Blue Jays scored two in the bottom of the seventh to grab the victory. Kahle Good drove in Moyle with the game-winner.

Moyle went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs, while Keema and Barnard added two hits each. Edis finished with two RBI.

Carson visits the Galena Cubs today at 5.
