Ron Bliss: Open Enrollment for major medical coverage begins Nov. 1

The fourth season of the Affordable Care Act begins on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when individuals can enroll for a major medical plan for 2017. Signups will continue through Jan. 31, 2017.

Choices have gone down and premiums and deductibles have increased. Whoever wins the presidency is sure to change the law in some way. Nevadans will still have a choice between three companies – Anthem, Prominence and Health Plan Nevada — but the number of plans this year have gone down.

Help for individuals is also going to be more scarce this year with diminishing commissions for agents forcing many out of the field.

Because of our commitment to our customers, Affordable Healthcare Pros will continue to enroll customers, but we will be making a fraction of what we were in commissions.

We are hoping to make up for loss of commissions from the providers by expanding our sales into other areas, including dental-vision-hearing, medical policies that supplement major medical and high deductibles, and other types of insurance, including property and casualty.

We are also active in helping clients with Medicare Supplements and working with providers for certain Medicare Advantage plans. The Annual Enrollment Period for Medicare began on Oct. 15 and will continue through Dec. 7.

If you need help with either major medical or Medicare, contact us at 775-883-3414 or come by our office at 2307 N. Carson St., Carson City. You can also call me personally at 775-224-7169. There is no charge for our services.
