Case Utter, who shot from Comstock Hot Shots, competed in Archery and Pistol and got gold in each in his age group.
Two 4-H Shooting Sports members represented Carson City/Storey County Cooperative Extension in Elko for the 2016 State 4-H Shooting Sports Match on Sept. 24.
Beau Harden, active in Carson Target Rippers, and Case Utter, active in Comstock Hot Shots, both spent the day competing with 104 4-H Shooting Sports members from seven counties throughout Nevada who competed in Air Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Muzzle Loader and Archery.
Beau Harden competed in Freestyle Archery against 14 other senior archers for a final score of 108 in the senior division.
Case Utter competed in the junior division of Air Pistol Unlimited for a total score of 139 and Archery for a score of 99. Case won gold medals in both of his disciplines in the junior division. State 4-H Shooting Sports Match takes place each year in September and rotates around the state.
Kaitlin Victor, Comstock Hot Shots 4-H’er, jumped at the chance to travel to Grand Island, Neb., to represent Nevada with 679 total competitors from 36 states in the National 4-H Shooting Sports Competition. Kaitlin competed in archery and although she didn’t place in the finals, she and her mom, who served as her coach, said they had a great time meeting other 4-H’ers from around the country and participating in the activities while off the range.
National 4-H Shooting Sports Competition takes place in June each year and is held in Grand Island, Neb.
