Cardinals win indoor flag football title

The Cardinals wrapped up the indoor title of the Talents NFL Flag Football League with a 46-18 win over the Rams.

Previously, the Cardinals won the outdoor championship.

Trevor Marlin threw five TD passes and Javier Arrellano tallied four times for the Cardinals. Victor Contreras accounted for three scores. Joey Altamerano threw for three scores for the Rams and Carlos Conchas added two scores.

The Steelers, led by Christian Smith’s three TD passes and five scores by Jacob Hanson, knocked off the Cowboys, 40-22. Sean Finn threw for two scores in a losing effort.

Turkey Shoot set

for Carson Valley

The annual Turkey Shoot golf tournament is set for Nov. 12 at Carson Valley Golf Club.

The cost is $40 which includes golf, cart, soup at the turn and $10 to the prize fund.

The format is the best 15 holes.

Also, for every three items donated to the food closest, you get one mulligan. There’s a two-mulligan maximum.

• Jeff and Gary Schreiber combined for a net 61 to win Flight A at the Carson Valley Men’s Club season-ending event, a two-man scramble, Nov. 6.

Dan Essary and Jack Sparman were second with a 62. Gerry Paulson and Joe Morrison won Flight B with a 62, one stroke better than Bruce Sanford and Jim Arens. Neil Bain and John Guidicatti won Flight C with a 61, one stroke better than Gerry Bing and Brent Holderman.

Empire Ranch

Winter rates started Nov. 1 at Empire Ranch.

The cost is $30 for 18 holes and includes a cart, $25 for seniors, $25 for casino workers, $25 for law enforcement and military, and $25 every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All the winter rates include a $5 coupon for the restaurant.

The annual Empire Ranch value card goes on sale Nov. 15. The cards are $125 if purchased by Dec. 31.

Muckers go 1-1

at regional v-ball

Virginia City went 1-1 at last weekend’s 1A volleyball tournament in Elko.

The Muckers swept Jackpot 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16 thanks to seven kills apiece by Chelsea Nevin and Emily Heinz plus 33 digs by Kaitlin Hames and 30 by Kim Tlapa. Heinz and Nevin also had 13 assists apiece. Bethany Fuller contributed six kills and 10 digs.

Wells knocked off VC in the semifinals, 20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 17-25 and 8-15. Fuller had 12 blocks and 31 digs, Hames added seven kills and 23 digs, and Heinz contributed five kills, four digs and 13 assists. The loss knocked VC out of state contention.

Area Pop Warner

teams in action

Pop Warner football teams from the Bay area and Northern Nevada will oppose each other Saturday when playoff games are played at Douglas High School.

Each of the games will be semifinals involving representatives from the Bay Area’s Peninsula and Northern Nevada’s Sagebrush Empire leagues. The lineup will kick off at 8 a.m. when the Douglas Tigers Mity Mites take on Hollister, followed by a 10 a.m. Mity Mite game between the South Tahoe Vikings and South Valley. The Carson Senators and Brentwood will square off in another Mity Mite game at noon.

The Carson Senators will field teams in each of the final three games. The Senators will face Almaden in a Junior Pee Wee division game at 2 p.m., followed by a Pee Wee game at 4 p.m. with Los Gatos and a Junior Varsity game at 6 p.m. with Coastside.

Two other Douglas teams will be in action Saturday at Bishop Manogue High School in Reno. The Pee Wee Tigers will play at 9 a.m. and the Junior Pee Wee Tigers will play at 11 a.m. Both games will be played against opponents still to be determined.
