The 22nd annual Carson High School Craft Fair is a perfect opportunity to shop for gifts for the holidays, as local vendors sell their one-of-a-kind handmade products.

With 125 local vendors, ceramics, knitted accessories and clothing, decorations, and baked goods are some of the many finished items being sold at Carson High School Friday and Saturday. Vendors include The Bakery Gallery of Yerington and Carson Valley Woodturners.

Student clubs also are contributing their creativity to the fair. CTE photography students will be taking photos with Santa, and CTE culinary students are making three varieties of individual-sized pies, grape jelly pumpkin bump cookies, bath bombs and dog biscuits for sale, as well as lunch choices including either beef or chicken chili served with corn bread or chips.

As a senior project, CHS seniors will be hosting a book sale. New and used Senators gear also will be on sale.

Fair Coordinator Cathy Barbie said the show has increased over the last 12 years by continually adding booths and vendors. Although there’s an admission cost to the event, Barbie said all proceeds go towards a good cause.

“We donate it back to the school for student use,” she said. “It also helps us create scholarships for current and alumni students. We are in serious need for volunteers to help with this event and offering scholarships encourage students and parents to contribute their time. We do this for the school, at the school.”

Scholarship range between $200-$500, and opportunities are offered to current and alumni students who volunteered to help with the event. Their recorded hours of volunteering determine eligibility.

In addition, donated canned goods at the event are given to FISH. Last year, the event donated at least eight barrels of food to the organization.

The CHS Craft fair is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Admission is $2 for adults and free for students.

On Saturday, the event goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission is $1.50 but bringing in a canned food will deduct it to $1.
