Program focusing on buckling up now ongoing

Nevada Highway Patrol will be looking for motorists and passengers who aren’t buckling up through Dec. 10.

During this time, the Nevada Highway Patrol will be Joining Forces watching for drivers and passengers in vehicles who aren’t wearing their seatbelts and/or children who aren’t properly secured in car or booster seat(s). Deputies, Officers, and Nevada State Troopers will be stopping drivers for traffic offenses and issuing citations for seatbelt violations if unbuckled. Seat belts are for protection, and the high-visibility enforcement mobilization to crack down on violators isn’t about increasing revenue — it’s about saving lives.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) 12,584 lives were saved by wearing seat-belts, yet 49 percent of occupants who were killed in 2013 weren’t restrained. The Nevada Highway Patrol wants to encourage everyone who’s traveling during this holiday season to please buckle up.

Law Enforcement within the State of Nevada continues to see senseless deaths and injuries sustained from car crashes that can be avoided by simply wearing a seatbelt. It only takes two seconds to put a seatbelt on to help save a life. Please buckle your seatbelt every time you get into a vehicle.
