Multiple crashes after snowfall hits Western Nevada

Chains or snow tires are being required across Western Nevada after an early morning snowfall, just in time for Thanksgiving travelers to return home.

The Nevada Highway Patrol was responding to nearly a dozen traffic incidents in Washoe County and Carson City around mid-morning.

In Carson City, up two inches of snow was reported.

Residents in Genoa and Johnson Lane reported up to 4 inches of snow on Sunday morning, while in the Sierra, Heavenly Resort reported 9 inches.

According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, road controls are in effect on Highway 395 north from Bridgeport all the way through the Pine Nuts to Carson Valley.

Chains or snow tires are also being required over Kingsbury Grade, on Highway 88 from the state line to Minden and on Highway 50 from Carson City over Spooner Summit.

Carson Valley remains under a winter weather advisory through 10 a.m. today. According to the National Weather Service most snow showers are south of Highway 50.

Forecasters said snow-covered roads could cause travel delays, with conditions expected to improve by later morning.

The California Highway Patrol is reporting a big rig and three vehicles stuck at Conway Summit with no chains.
