Carson City shows appreciation for law enforcement officers

Carson City residents gathered Saturday to show their support for local law enforcement.

The We Love Our LEOs rally was held Saturday at the William Street United Federal Credit Union, bringing hundreds of Carson City residents together to express their appreciation for the law enforcement officers.

“We have the best law enforcement in the whole country, can we get a hoorah for them?” co-organizer P.J. Degross said to the audience Saturday. “I can tell you from personal experience that when you call, they are there.”

Several people brought signs to the event, expressing their gratitude and sharing how much they love and appreciate the local law enforcement. And others attended to give a handshake and thank you to the Washoe Tribal Police, Nevada Highway Patrol, Capital and Legislative Police, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Juvenile Probation and many more officers who were at the event.

“We wanted to support our law enforcement and I think Sheriff (Ken) Furlong is awesome,” said Adrienne Murphy.

“We have tremendous support from our law enforcement and first responders and we don’t want to lose that,” added her husband Ray Murphy.

Several community figures, such as Mayor Bob Crowell, joined the community members and businesses who rallied to support the officers. Mayor Crowell also provided Lori Bagwell, one of the event organizers, with a proclamation from the city declaring it Law Enforcement Officer Appreciation Day.

“Our law enforcement officers go out of their way and are looked upon, not just as peace keepers, but as friends who would go out of their way for us,” Crowell read off the proclamation. “…Carson City is proud of our law enforcement and public safety officers.”

Sen. Dean Heller and Congressman Mark Amodei also had representatives from their offices to present the three organizers with senatorial and congressional certificates.

Event patrons got the opportunity to go around and speak with the different agencies and departments within those agencies, enjoy live music and indulge in a lunch from a local Carson City food restaurant.

For the law enforcement officers, the event was a nice way to feel supported by the community.

“I know the support public safety has across Northern Nevada but when you get to see it, at events like this, it is a different story, a different feeling,” said Furlong.
