The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City’s Frank Reynolds for his 20 years as a Marine and for everything he does to support veterans. Reynolds was named as the Veteran of the Month last week by Gov. Brian Sandoval.

SILVER DOLLAR: We have to toot our own horn but to all the staff responsible for winning 21 awards presented by the Nevada Pres Association.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Pioneer High senior Heather Wright for earning her rank as the cadet commander and Senior Master Sargent in the Civil Air Patrol, Nevada Wing.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Tazmanian Boxing Club for offering therapeutic classes in boxing to those with Parkinson’s disease and to all those fighting he disease — in and out of the class — and to their loved ones for their support.

SILVER DOLLAR: It was an Epic award indeed when the Carson City Off-Road was named the best mountain bike race in the nation during the Interbike International Bicycle Exposition in Las Vegas. Obviously kudos to all those involved in the event.
