Illness of Sen. Nye: We are sorry to have the announcement to make that Sen. Nye still continues to be unwell, and that he was suffering from a great deal of prostration yesterday. His disease seems to be of a thyroid type, and the warm weather of the past few days has no doubt had an unfavorable effect upon him.

Oscar, the 3-year-old son of Mr. A. Roberts, died of scarlet fever Sunday. The steam laundry stockholders meet in the Secretary of State’s office at 3 p.m. today. The State Fair opens today at Reno and there will be quite a list of exhibits.

Mineral County is to have a splendid new $10,000 county hospital building. There can be no question that it is badly needed as the old one is not only a ramshackle affair and almost ready to tumble down, but is unsanitary and unfit to house patients.

Portions of U.S. Highways 50 and 23 are still closed as a result of yesterday’s flash flooding, Robert A. Allen, state highway engineer, announced today. Most damage was evidently caused in the Eastgate vicinity with the road there completely washed out.

Lt. Gov. Paul Laxalt Sunday night wound up a three week, small county campaign climaxing with a rousing rally in Elko — his opponent’s home town. The Elko affair, which started with a 100-car parade and ended with 600 at an outdoor bean feed rally, was described as the largest ever held in Elko.

With the possibility of the city’s General Fund reaching a deficit of more than $800,000 by the end of the 1987 fiscal year, the Board of Supervisors Thursday gave the City Manager direction to implement a corrective action plan.
