CHS notebook: Morrison fills in after Keema injury

RENO — Playing at Bishop Manogue is death on Carson High quarterbacks.

Last year, Joe Nelson suffered a knee injury in the first half of a lopsided win over the Miners.

On Friday, Carson lost Jace Keema to an ankle injury late in the third quarter of a 33-6 Sierra League win at D.J. Benardis Field.

Keema suffered his injury after a 4-yard run down to the Manogue 4. He iced the ankle, and eventually left the field to have X-rays.

“I’m hoping it’s going to be OK,” Carson coach Blair Roman said. “I’m hoping it’s just a bruise, but they wanted to take precautionary x-rays.

“Daniel did fine. I mean we kept it simple. He can run the offense and do whatever we need him to do. He’s come a long way since August.”

Morrison didn’t throw a pass, but he didn’t need to. Carson was comfortably ahead. He did engineer a scoring drive at the start of the fourth quarter which extended Carson’s lead to 26-6.

This was Morrison’s first significant action, but if Keema can’t go, he will be under center against Damonte Ranch next Friday.

“I’m ready to step in if Jace can’t go,” Morrison said. “This is Jace’s team and everybody knows that.”

GLANZMANN STEPS UP: Junior Kyle Glanzmann stepped in at cornerback for the injured Landon Truesdale and did an outstanding job.

Truesdale injured his ankle late in Wednesday’s practice. Roman isn’t sure if Truesdale will return for Damonte Ranch.

“I was nervous at the start until I got on the field,” Glanzmann said. “As soon as the game started it went away. I knew I was going to start on Thursday. I get reps everyday (so I was ready).”

“He did a great job,” Roman said. “That is the first thing I told the team after the game. He did a good job of keeping everything in front of him.”

ROIDE, LARKIN SHINE FOR MINERS: The Senators saw two familiar faces on the Bishop Manogue sideline on Friday.

Dylan Roide, who played in Carson City Little League and Carson Pop Warner, has 34 tackles in six games. He didn’t play on Friday because of an injury. Conner Larkin started on defense and recorded several tackles. At the end of the game, he gave Bret Andreas, a former Pop Warner coach, a big hug.

BY THE NUMBERS: Abel Carter has seven straight 100-yard games…Gagnon had a season-best three catches for 89 yards … Barahona continued his strong kicking with two field goals. He has two multi-field goal games … Carter is 3-for-3 on halfback option passes this year.
