RENO — Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei says he’s still voting for Donald Trump, even after lewd comments from the presidential nominee to light.
Amodei said in a statement Monday the outrage over the vulgar “Access Hollywood” comments is appropriate and deserved. But Amodei says he won’t tear apart the party over things Trump has done in the past.
A string of elected Republicans have abandoned Trump in light of the comments from a recorded 2005 conversation, including Nevada Republican Reps. Joe Heck and Cresent Hardy.
Amodei is a three-term congressman who represents a solidly Republican northern Nevada congressional district and chairs the Nevada Trump Campaign.
Democrat Chip Evans, who is running against Amodei, said sticking with Trump “is another example of Amodei’s poor judgment and consistent pattern of putting his party and his own interests before the people he was elected to represent.I’m confident northern Nevada’s hard working families will see Amodei’s poor judgment and blind partisanship for what it is and bring him home in November,” he said.
