The Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the ballot measure that will deregulate electric power in Nevada.
Question 3 would give consumers more energy options by allowing them to choose service providers other than NvEnergy which currently holds a monopoly on electric service except for a couple of power plants operated by eastern Nevada mines.
Nevadans for Affordable Clean Energy Choices spokesman Karen Griffin said the initiative would let consumers choose electric providers based on factors that include not only price but the percentage of renewable energy they offer.
Carson Valley Chamber Director Bill Chernock said that organization strongly supports giving people and businesses more energy options.
“The additional benefits of job creation and a likely increase in the production of energy from renewable sources makes it an even more attractive option,” he said. “It’s time to bring competition to this industry in Nevada.”
Griffin said nearly a third of Americans already have the ability to choose their electricity providers.
