Community spotlight: CMS eighth graders take second in Tah-Neva

The Carson Middle School eighth-grade cross country team took second place at the TahNeva Championships last week at Kahle Park.

North Tahoe won the championship and Alder Creek was third.

Parker Lehmann ran a 17:25 for the 2.63-mile course and was the fifth overall finisher. He won two meets this year. Juan Ayala, Will Breding, Dominic Martinez and Isaac Harrison also ran for CMS. Sarah Mobaligh was the top finisher for the CMS girls, taking 16th place.

Bryce Lehmann finished in ninth place in the seventh-grade race, clocking a 14:35. Nearly 200 runners competed in the 2.13-mile race.

Grace Walt finished 13th, the top seventh-grade time for girls. Both Lehmann and Walt are sixth grader.


FLAG FOOTBALL

Cardinals still unbeaten

The Cardinals beat the Rams, 40-27, to stay unbeaten in the Talents Carson City NFL Flag Football League. The Cardinals beat the Cowboys 58-30 and the Steeler 64-36.

Trevor Marlin led the Cardinals with 17 TD passes and Alex Myrehn added 10 TDs. Victor Contreras contributed seven TDs and Kory Grist had five plus a TD pass.

The Steelers, 7-5, went 2-1 last week. Jacob Hansen scored twice and threw 13 TD passes.

Christian Smith scored three times and threw six TD passes. Chris Bravo added six TDs. The Rams dropped to 5-7 after going 1-2 last week. Erick Vasquez scored five times and threw two TD passes and Joey Altermerano threw five TDs and scored one himself.

The Cowboys lost three times and dropped to 0-12, Andres Rivas scored four times, while Sean Fin scored twice and threw for four scores.


GOLF

Upcoming Eagle Valley events

The Eagle Valley Men’s Club has two events scheduled for this month.

On Oct. 20 there’s a four-man shamble/2-man best ball event on the East course starting at 9 a.m. On Oct. 27, there’s an individual stroke play event with $100 extra dollars in the pot. That event is at 9 a.m. on the West course.


Ace for Ward

Dave Ward, an employee at Toiyabe Golf Club, registered a hole-in-one recently at Empire Ranch.

Ward recorded his ace using a 5-hybrid on the 166-yard hole.
