Another attempt to roast out the Appeal office: About 6 o’clock last evening fire was discovered in the old, unoccupied building which is separated from the Appeal building on its eastern side by an alley, and, but for the prompt efforts of Gus Lewis, Judge McKeeby and others, a serious conflagration would doubtless have been the result. This makes the second time that old building has been set on fire, purposely, in day time. It is pleasant to think that some amiable incendiary is anxious to roast the Appeal out of existence. Hence, suppose you tear that old shanty down.

Campaign mud: There is nothing so disgusting to the lover of fair play as the biennial shower of filth which bespatters the candidates for public honors in this State. This year the Democrats are making votes for Stewart and Stevenson by importing a professional spattered from San Francisco to cover them with campaign slander.

As it is, an effort to maintain peace with and to secure influence over the Mexican people, we have submitted to the loss of less than three hundred American lives and temporary depreciation of property.

Two correctional officers and a lieutenant at the medium security prison have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the circumstances of an escape of an inmate who is still at large.
