Carson High’s first-round playoff opponent is a familiar one — Reno High School.

By virtue of their 31-17 setback against rival Douglas Thursday night, the Senators enter the 4A playoffs as the No. 3 seed, and will face the Huskies for the second time this year. Reno knocked off Carson, 34-17, in the second week of the season. The Huskies’ Brandon Kaho scored three times and kicked two field goals in that game.

Carson coach Blair Roman didn’t have any comment regarding next week’s playoff opener. Kaho’s status is unknown. He suffered a concussion last week. Reno advanced with a 34-21 over McQueen.

Meanwhile, Douglas doesn’t have to play Reed in the opening round for the first time in several years. The Tigers will host Spanish Springs, who handed them a lopsided 51-27 loss in the second week of the season.

“I think we were behind 28-7 (in the first half) before we woke up,” Douglas coach Ernie Monfiletto said. “By the time we woke up it was too late.”

Other first-round match-ups have three-time defending regional champ Reed hosting Bishop Manogue and Sierra League champion Damonte Ranch playing host to McQueen.
