WASHOE VALLEY — Carson High finished fourth in the initial Sierra League girls golf tournament of the season Thursday at Toiyabe Golf Club.

Jill Beglin led Carson and tied for second overall with an 93 in an extremely windy conditions. Camryn Aten was second at 116, Angelika Morrison had a 121 and Jessika Montes shot 162,

Bishop Manogue, led by Amelia Gladys and Tiffany Rubins, both with 96s, finished with a 393. Galena was second with a 448 followed by Damonte Ranch with a 476.

The medalist was Wooster’s Jessica Stanton with an 86. Wooster, however, failed to have four scorers.

“We placed fourth, but lost Aly Perry to a migraine, and that probably lost us 30 shots,” coach Wade Greenlee said. “I was so proud of Jessika Montes’ determination to finish, because this was her first tournament, and Toyoibe is a tough course.

“Jill struck the ball extremely well, but had some trouble around the green. She’ll work on that and be stronger next week. Both Camryn Aten and Angelika Morrison had trouble on the front nine, but played well on the back nine. All in all, it was an OK first tournament, and I anticipate all of the girls playing much better at Eagle Valley on Tuesday.”
