CHS frosh-soph boys win Twilight meet

SPARKS — Carson placed four runners in the top 12 en route to winning the boys frosh-soph title at the Nature’s Bakery Nevada Twilight Classic Friday at Shadow Mountain Park.

All high school races were 4,000 meters.

The Senators finished with 46 points.

Anthony Ramirez was second (14:53), Hunter Rauh was third (15:07), Zachary Saver was 10th (15:35) and Ethan Byasse was 12th (15:51). Adan Garcia took 27th in 16:33.

The JV girls were eighth with 200 points, well behind Douglas’ winning score of 58. Jaidyn Shepard was fifth in 18:06 out of 130 runners and Aeritis Fisher-Burns was 58th in 21:25. Maeve Hoerth was 63rd, Josie Share 64th and Mackenzie Cartier was 66th.

The Carson boys were 13th in varsity large school with 371 points. Spanish Springs won with 66. The Carson girls were 13th in large school girls with 344 points. McQueen won with 79.

Logan Mead was the top CHS finisher, taking 57th in 15:09. Miles Bean was 72nd in 15:29, Reece Canfield was 94th in 15:54, Chris Breggren was 95th in 16:04 and Adam Flaten was 106th in 16:41.

Rheanna Jackson was the top CHS finisher at 56th in 17:59. Makaela Bigley was 62nd in 18:03 and Blanca Sosa was 74th in 18:26. Chloe Hataway and Kathryn Liemandt were the final two scoring runners for Carson.

Carson coach Pete Sinnott noted all his frosh-soph runners improved their time by one to two minutes from the week before, adding Ramirez improved his time by two minutes.

Sinnott also said his varsity runners ran to expectations, improving their times as well.

The Dayton boys were third in the small school varsity race. J.J. Ply was fourth in 14:31, Jason Logan was eighth in 15:15, Austin Duarte was 13th in 15:38, Madsen Evans was 17th in 15:47,and Logan Allander was 24th.

Sierra Lutheran’s boys team was fourth in small school boys. Jared Marchegger won the race in 14:19 and Ricky McNeely was second in 14:19. Tyler Waite (15:59) was 20th, Teagen Hansen (16:07) was 21st and Brandon Hall (17:26) was third. Elaina Marchegger was second in small-school girls with a 16:45, Clare Davison was seventh in 17:22, Taylor Davison was 12th in 17:57 and Emily McNeely was 15th in 18:20.

Dayton at High Sierra

Dayton (7-6) stepped up in competition and held its own at the High Sierra Tournament. Against all larger schools, Dayton went 2-5.

Dayton’s most impressive win came against Northern IA Damonte Ranch, 25-19, 24-26, 15-12. The Dust Devils also beat Foothill 25-19, 25-19.

Dayton also fell to Douglas 16-25, 20-25, Nevada Union (Calif.) 17-25, 16-25, St. Mary’s (Calif.) 15-25, 23-25, Reno 25-27, 12-25 and West (Calif.) 20-25, 13-25.

Dayton boys take second

Dayton took second in the White Pine Tournament, losing to West Wendover 3-0, before coming back to beat Elko’s junior varsity 2-0 and Spring Creek’s JV 5-0.

Against Elko, Clay Dixon scored on an assist from Victor Gomez and Marco Torres scored. Against Spring Creek, Gomez and Jorrdy Diaz each had a goal and an assist and Dixon, Riley Fetters and Jacob Duran all scored.

The Dust Devils thens beat White Pine 3-0 in the semifinals. Gomez, Dixon and Duran all scored, Diaz had an assist and goalie Gabriel Dums made a save on a penalty kick.

Dayton went onto lose in a wild, physical and intense championship game to West Wendover 4-2.

Diaz scored on a header off of a beautiful crossing pass from freshman Isaac Guadarrama to give Dayton a 1-0 halftime lead. After Wendover took a 2-1 lead, Dayton had a chance to tie it with 10 minutes left when it missed a penalty kick. Wendover went onto score twice before with two minutes left, Gomez scored on a beautiful free kick from outside the box that hit the top post and bounced in.
