RENO — The Carson coaching staff raved about Reno’s Brandon Kaho all week, and the Huskies’ standout delivered.
Kaho delivered key plays in all three facets of the game to lead the Huskies to a 34-17 win over Carson Friday night at Foster Field.
Kaho carried 11 times for 105 yards and two scores, caught two passes for 30 yards and a score, kicked two field goals and was a force defensively,
Reno coach Dan Avansino said Kaho, who played varsity as a sophomore, had off-season shoulder surgery which really helped him out.
“We made him look pretty good,” Carson coach Blair Roman said. “We didn’t do a good job tackling him.”
DIFFERENT LOOKS: Reno gives everybody it plays multiple looks, and Friday was no exception.
Several different players took snaps. Besides quarterback Drake Vestbie and back-up QB Sawyer Jasick, Kaho ran some wildcat as did Reese Taylor.
The Huskies had 216 yards unofficially on the ground.
“We try to be creative, and get our guys the ball in space,” Avansino. “We try to make people defend.”
The Reno pasing game was dink and dunk, but it was enough against the Senators.
UP NEXT: It doesn’t get any easier for the Senators, who host the defending regional champion Reed Raiders Friday at 7. Reed knocked off Douglas 53-16 on Friday.
“If we don’t come out with any more intensity than we had tonight, then the result will be similar,” Roman said. “We had a chance to come out in the second half to make it a one-touchdown game and we shot ourselves in the foot. We must have had six or eight penalties. We have to step up and play better.”
Reed and Carson have played in the last three regional finals with the Raiders taking all three. The Raiders are 1-1 this season.
THIRD WIN: The win was Reno’s third in its last seven attempts against Carson, and all three have come at home.
The previous two Reno wins versus Carson at Reno had been by a combined 10 points.
TURNOVERS: Quarterback Jace Keema had his second straight two interception game.
The first led to a Reno score in the first half and the second came late in the game when the Senators were trying to rally.
JV SQUAD FALLS: Reno kicked a field goal with 12 seconds left to snap a scoreless tie and give the Huskies a 3-0 win over Carson on Thursday night.
The ball hit the left upright and went through. In the third quarter,
Carson’s Carl Cavner blocked a field goal to keep the game scoreless.
