The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.
SILVER DOLLAR: To all those recognized by our readers as the Best of Carson City. These are the folks who make our community the best.
SILVER DOLLARS: To former First Lady Bonnie Bryan who died last week at the age of 77 of leukemia. Bryan, the wife of former Nevada Governor Richard Bryan, was known for her outreach to young people.
SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies Cody Bindley and Matt Smith for stopping off at the lemonade stand of 2-year-old Joseph Pruyt and 3-year-old Owen Pruyt. The stop by the deputies wasn’t about the lemonade stand but about their community outreach and that’s something we’ll always try to recognize.
SILVER DOLLAR: To former NFL standout quarterback Kurt Warner, who serves as an offensive coordinator for Desert Mountain (Ariz.), for taking the time last week to talk to local football players.
SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson High football coach Blair Roman for being named as athletic director at CHS.
WOOD NICKEL: To those who committed thousands of dollars at the Carson River Canyon Open Space area, forcing the area to be closed at nights.
