Tremendous big mail: The Pioneer Stage came in late. The cause of the detention was the immense quantity of mail matter. There were 58 packages, 44 were for Carson and the bulk of them were directed to James W. Nye. The Senator’s home is well fortified with documents to sustain his position, but he may feel assured that he does not need them here — his position among Union men of Nevada is approvingly established.

Carson boys in business: Joe O’Brien and Prince Catlin have opened a confectionery store in Goldfield. Joe has plenty of experience in confectionery, and Prince is noted for his ability to accomplish anything he undertakes. They expect a prosperous run of business.

Boxing purse distributed: The purse was distributed, Nelson receiving $22,500 and Gans $11,000. This included the addition to the original purse of $3,500 made voluntarily by Tex Rickard and George Wingfield.

Fire in Washoe Valley: Two brush fires on both sides of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad track broke out near the C. A. Wellesly Ranch in Washoe Valley. The Warren Engine fireman and railroad employees battled the flames for two hours. Fires were caused when sparks from a V & T engine ignited the brush.

Mickey Rooney: The pint-sized actor was married under the old crystal chandeliers of a Las Vegas strip wedding chapel to Marie Lane, his friend for more than eight years. It was the sixth marriage for the 45-year old actor.

Face lift: Approval to spend $2 million of its room tax reserves to restore the historic Carson City federal building was approved. The four-story brick building will be for Tourism and offices of the Nevada Magazine. The building was completed in 1891 and was the first federal building in Nevada. It housed the Post Office, Land Office and U.S. District Court ...
