Prep roundup: CHS spikers, tennis are winners

SPARKS — Jaycie Roberts had nine kills, four blocks and five digs to lead Carson High’s volleyball team to a 25-12, 25-18 and 25-9 win over Reed Tueday night in a match that lasted less than an hour.

Carson improved to 2-1 in Northern 4A play, and will be on the road at Hug Thursday.

Coach Robert Maw shifted to a 6-2 offense with both Natalie Anderson and Abby Pradere setting, Anderson had 15 assists, two digs and four aces, and Pradere had seven assists and four digs. Abby Paulson served as libero and had five digs.

“I wanted to take a little pressure off Natalie,” Maw said. “I believe I will stay with it (for now). Paulson did a nice job at libero. We had some good energy tonight. The girls played well. Shea (DeJoseph) had a good game.”

Ari Schmidt had six kills and Dajarrah Navarro added five kills and two blocks.

Yerington sweeps

LOVELOCK — Yerington (12-7, 3-0) swept Lovelock 25-15, 25-20, 25-16.

Deseree Landa had 14 digs, Mya Murphy had six digs, Ashley Rife had nine digs, 13 assists and six aces, and Rachel Dane added seven kills for the Lions.

Cougars subdue Douglas

SPARKS — Douglas lost to Spanish Springs (4-0 in the High Desert, 17-3 overall) 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 on Tuesday night.

Douglas is now 2-1 in league, 12-2 overall.

Carson blanks Hug

RENO — The Senators remained undefeated at 4-0 with a 3-0 win over Hug Tuesday night at Rollins Stallworth Stadium.

Lauren Hudak, Mallory Otto and Brynn Lehman scored for the Senators, who host North Valleys at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“Wasn’t quite the sharpness I wanted to see, but we won and were able to work on a few things and get a few different looks,” coach Greg Lehman said. “Hailey (Palotas) and Valerie Sue (Meyer) played well. Everyone had bright moments.”

Whittell slams Dayton

ZEPHYR COVE — Whittell blanked the Dust Devils 7-0 on Tuesday. No other information was available

Carson girls down McQueen

RENO — The Senators’ top singles players — Shaylin Segura, Elise Brady and Becca Trejo — all went 2-1 en route to an 11-7 win over McQueen Tuesday afternoon.

The win was Carson’s fourth straight after a season-opening loss to Reno.

Anya Woodbury and Emma Breeding, Carson’s top doubles tandem, also went 2-1 as did Amanda Schulz and Emily McCaskill.

Carson visits Galena on Thursday.

CHS boys win easily

The Senators led 10-2 after two rounds and went to the bench in the third round of Tuesday’s 12-6 victory over McQueen.

Jared Barnard went 2-0 in singles as did the doubles tandems of Taylor Saarem and Jayson Artz, Nico Salm and Danny Dudley, and Alex Henricksen and Stuart McElhany. Carson hosts Galena Thursday.
