Congratulations to new Marines from Carson City

The proud Marines of Carson City’s Marine Corps League Detachment 630, who have served in all military conflicts since World War II, assembled at the Carson City Salvation Army to honor two former Carson High School NJROTC students.

Josiah Cyr and Nery Peña completed their basic boot camp training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Camp Pendleton in San Diego.

Marine Commandant Gary Armstrong of the Carson City Marine Corps League had no problem in inspiring the Marine Corps League Detachment 630 to celebrate with these young Marines for their commitment to serving our country.

Josiah Cyr is the son of Captains Mark and Leslie Cyr of the Carson City Salvation Army. He and Peña decided to join the Marines earlier this year and enlisted as a team, reporting to Camp Pendleton upon graduation.

Their prior training in the NJROTC program and high moral character are credited for their achieving a rare promotion to the rank of Private First Class this early in their Marine Corps service.

Completing the rigorous Marine boot camp training is a high moment for any young person dedicated to serving their country. It’s the reason the Marine Corps League members gathered to recognize the former students and wish them well for their next assignments.

Cyr, who appeared in his dress blues worn for special occasions, and Peña will receive infantry training before they advance to their selected specialty in their service tenure.
