En route to Washoe: A man named Eli Lee was brought from Chico by Deputy Sheriff J. L. Smith of Washoe City. He is accused of having stolen a racing mare, the property of Sandy Bowers. The prisoner was arrested and taken across the mountains under a requisition from Governor Blasdel. (Soc. Union)

All sorts: The boys at the Orphans’ Home are already beginning to do carpenter work at the Home and have turned out several good jobs.

Almost everybody has the epizootic about Carson.

Cargo of roast duck: A cargo of good roast ducks came from Shanghai to New York. The ducks were roasted in China and took three months to come. The ship had no cold storage, and the fact that the ducks were aboard was no secret. In coming through the Indian Ocean, a great storm arose breaking up 100 big cases of pepper. Between the two evils the crew had a cruise that will not easily be forgotten.

Lions Club: Chester (Ike) Cochran, President of Lions, was a speaker on the radio program, Melody Lane. Seventy Lions are in the present membership and the clubs take an active interest in the civic, social and moral welfare of the community. The club sponsors the Cub Scouting program, student speaker’s contests and Christmas dinner for children and employees of the Nevada State Orphans Home.

$69 round-trip ticket: Western Pacific Airlines is offering a round-trip ticket, but the airlines gets to pick the destination — any of the 22 cities it serves, from Portland, Ore., to Orlando, Fla. Travelers are told nothing about their secret destination until a few days before they leave. The “mystery tour” is designed to fill seats during a typically slow season.
